ERNWACA was created on 12th February 1989 in Freetown in Sierra Leone. The evaluation of achievements of the network during the past 20 years clearly indicated an increase in research activities in its sixteen member countries. Further, over 400 researchers and education specialists, among which 30% women have been mobilised. Guided by its strategic plan (2005-2010), today the network is a key partner for education stakeholders and decision-makers thanks to the quality of research it produces and the role the network plays in the analysis of the challenges facing African education systems.

Beyond the general consensus on the impact of educational research in policy and practice in Africa, ERNWACA plans to launch at the end of the colloquium, a process of collaborative work between all researchers of African networks, policy makers and partners working in the field of education.
The celebration of the 20th anniversary of ERNWACA will be marked by the colloquium, which is thus the stage of an inaugural scientific researcher’s biennial for ERNWACA and from other researchers in Africa and in the world.

The Second Decade of the Education Action Plan identifies ROCARE as a viable research partner to achieve the goals set for 2006-2015.
